Airwaive Partners with Beanfield Metroconnect to Bridge the Digital Divide

Airwaive is pleased to announce that it is partnering with fiber-optic provider Beanfield Metroconnect in Canada to help bridge the digital divide. As part of this partnership, Airwaive’s software now includes nearly three thousand of Beanfield’s fiber endpoints across Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. This data enables wireless ISPs to create new neighborhood hotspots to reach underserved markets. Coupled with Airwaive’s free network planning and building tools, wireless ISPs are able to realize tangible savings in both budget and time to market.

“We’re delighted to partner with a company that shares our mission to bridge the digital divide. With Beanfield’s superior fiber speed and reliability, Airwaive operators can deploy neighborhood hotspots with confidence and scale,” said Jeff Yee, CEO of Airwaive. “This confidence is further supported by Beanfield’s commitment not to prioritize or throttle network traffic.”

A fiber connection provides the greatest performance in terms of bandwidth and speed. However, laying fiber to every single home is often cost prohibitive and difficult to do. With the advent of 5G wireless technology, there is an alternative solution for the last-mile Internet. Airwaive automates the process for wireless ISPs to identify and evaluate neighborhood hotspot locations, all within pre-determined budget and contract terms. By streamlining this process, Airwaive reduces the cost of acquiring and leasing properties to host these hotspots. Most importantly, lower deployment costs will translate into more affordable Internet access to both unserved and underserved markets.

“By leveraging Beanfield’s fiber endpoints in strategic locations, wireless gateways and repeaters can extend wireless coverage to communities that are more difficult to bring full fiber to”, said Dan Armstrong, Beanfield CEO. “Combining fiber and 5G technologies may prove to be the most cost and time-efficient way to bring broadband access to more Canadians.”
